|FRAME: CPD1A0-6177 "Streptorubin B"| is a red pigmented antibiotic of the prodiginines family that is produced by some actinomycetes. The first description of the compound was made in 1975 |CITS: [1092639]|. The structure assigned to it at that time was incorrect, but the authors corrected the mistake three years later |CITS: [Gerber78]|. The compound was isolated in 1985 from |FRAME: TAX-1902| but was assigned the original, incorrect structure |CITS: [3972724]|. It was isolated from a different strain in 1988, with the authors reporting the correct structure and proposing that all previous isolations are of the same compound |CITS: [2010358]|.The controversy surrounding the structure was reignited in 2005, when once again the compound was isolated from |FRAME: TAX-1902| and assigned the incorrect structure |CITS: [15798986]|. However, a careful study performed in 2008 conclusively determined the structure as shown here |CITS: [18291318]|.The structure is rather complex, since transannular strain within the pyrrolophane substructure causes restricted rotation that gives rise to diastereomeric atropisomers. The major atropisomer (88% of the total product) was shown to be the anti form with 7'S configuration |CITS: [ 21166415]|.
